Dr. Roberto Cingolani, Scientific Director at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) in Genoa, Italy and his team have created a nanotechnological process that makes paper waterproof, magnetic, antibacterial without modifying any basic properties of the paper. Meaning this isn’t some chemical monstrosity, it’s just still paper you can print and draw on, recycle or make a paper airplane.

How did they do it? Remember, IIT is the creator of iCub, the first open source humanoid platform and the thin end of the wedge for understanding human cognition and artificial intelligence.** So it isn’t a surprise that Dr. Cingolani would take nanotechnology down a similar path, applying science to things we use every day.

After the compound is created, it can be injected into any non woven material like fabrics or papers and is applied by rolling, dipping or spay coating the fabric or paper. But remember, it doesn’t create a surface over the paper, it creates a soft 3D shell around each fiber of the paper. This is nanotechnology afterall.

“The properties of the paper are not changed in any way and the paper is still printable,” said Dr. Cingolani “The properties of nanoparticles are transferred to the material making it either waterproof or antibacterial, even florescent if you wanted.”

Dr. Cingolani adds that through the discovery of this process and applying different nanoparticles to the compound you could create self cleaning and fluorescent paper as well.

“Antibacterial paper is potentially important for the food packaging and medical applications,” adds Cingolani. “Fluorescent and magnetic paper could be used for security and bank note/currency protection or other similar documents. Waterproof paper could be used to protect cultural heritage documents.”

Yes, it’s only paper, but the new process can also be applied to other paper products like books, magazines, newspapers, paper money and wallpaper.Imagine a wall paper that resists bacteria and could cut down on the spreading of germs from a doctor’s office waiting room during cold and flu season.

Now let’s talk details. It’s no surprise that it will roll out for free. What’s interesting though is that Google is planning to start everyone with 5 GB of storage. Of course you can buy more, but that trumps Dropbox’s 2 GB that is included with every account. Dropbox does make it easy to get more space, including 23 GB of potential upgrades for HTC users.

What’s also interesting is the wording related to how the system will work. It’s been long-thought that Windows integration will come easy, but that getting the Google Drive icon into the Mac a la Dropbox would be a bit harder. From what we’re reading, Google Drive will work “in desktop folders” on both Mac and Windows machines, which still leaves the operation question unanswered.
But there is one very solid piece of news – Google Drive is expected to launch in the middle of next week. Given how big companies such as Apple, Google and the rest operate, I’m placing my bets on Tuesday, but Wednesday is also a popular day for Google updates. In fact, TechCrunch seems to have gotten their hands onto the app itself.

Now as for the reliability of the information? It’s not at all uncommon for big companies to launch with partners for new features. When that happens, the partners will often-times have a heads up to integration and specifics, and that’s exactly what appears to have happened here as it did with the Lucidchart leak from last week. We’ll have to wait and see exactly how it all works out, but let’s just say that our earlier prediction of in-app document editing is pretty solid as well, given the nature of the release that was sent to us today.

But the question remains – Can Google Drive hold a candle to Dropbox?  
Intel in partnership with Indian handset maker Lava today announced the launch of India's first Intel Powered 'Xolo X900' phone.

"This is the first smartphone in India, powered by Intel's Atom Z2460, which is the fastest (mobile phone) processor available in the market. Xolo X900 will be available from April 23 at a best buy price of Rs 22,000," Lava Co-Founder and Director Vishal Sehgal told.
The partnership between Lava and Intel was announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February this year. Sehgal added that the company is also working on "value smart phones", which would be launched soon in the sub Rs 15,000 price range. Lava has also partnered with Croma as preferred retail partner for promotion and sale of the product.

Intel is now looking at strengthening its presence in the mobile telephony space and wooing smartphone makers to use its processor architecture. "We are talking to players, including Motorola and Lenovo, to bring devices on the same platform in other geographies," Intel Architecture Group Vice President and Mobile and Communications Group General Manager Mike Bell said.

The phone is powered by a 1.6GHz Atom processor with Hyper Threading technology that, according to the companies, brings speed and multi-tasking performance.  The phone features a 4.03-inch high resolution LCD display and an 8 megapixel camera. The Xolo X900 runs Android 2.3, which is upgradable to Android 4.0 operating system.  It comes with a 400MHz Graphics Processor Unit (GPU) and its 8 megapixel camera can click up to 10 pictures in less than a second.

Intel South Asia Managing Director (Sales and Marketing Group) Debjani Ghosh said, "We are working on an integrated marketing campaign which will be out in May."

The New iPad finally arrives to India on April 27th. After the launch in US and Europe the iPad will be made available to 21 more countries starting April 20th. It launches in India on April 27th.

The new iPad Wi-Fi models will be available in black or white for a suggested retail price of $499 (US) for the 16GB model, $599 (US) for the 32GB model and $699 (US) for the 64GB model. The iPad Wi-Fi + 4G models will be available for a suggested retail price of $629 (US) for the 16GB model, $729 (US) for the 32GB model and $829 (US) for the 64GB model. The new iPad will be sold through the Apple Online Store and select Apple Authorized Resellers.


Samsung has sent out an invitation to Tweakers.net, a Dutch technological Blog, stating that the "Next Galaxy Smartphone" could be announced on May 3. Probably it is the Galaxy S III. 

The event for the announcement of new Galaxy Smartphone is scheduled for Thursday, the 3rd of May in London. It falls under the term "Samsung Mobile Unpacked". It must be recalled that under this name Samsung previously announced  the Nexus Galaxy, Galaxy S II. The invitation shows no device, but only a few patches of color.

Despite the the announcement, little is known about the new phone. Reportedly the Galaxy S III might have a screen size of approximately 4.7", with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. The processor would be Samsung's own Exynos 4412, a quad-core system-on-a-chip, whose four Cortex A9 processor cores clocked at 1.5 GHz. The phone would run on Android 4.0. The housing of the phone is made of ceramic, for firmness.

Facebook has just announced that it will acquire Instagram, the popular mobile photo-sharing service, for $1 billion in cash and shares. The social networking giant posted on the acquisition, its biggest yet, on its site, as well as on CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg’s Timeline on Facebook.

Sony claims that they have gone beyond HD, and are once again ahead of the curve, by offering theatre quality 4K for homes with the world’s first true 4K home theatre projector.
